Rest Days

What is the right and wrong way to do it?

What does a rest day look like for you? Is it a total exemption from all things exercise? Is it your daily life? Is it an excuse to eat all the things you have been keeping from yourself?

How do you feel after your rest days? Rested? Excited to get back to the grind? Lethargic? Depressed?

I was having a conversation with a friend this week about our rest day routines. It got me thinking about the “right” solution for rest days. For me, I feel more exhausted and it takes me more time and energy to get back into a workout after a rest day. Sure, maybe I eat a little more or worse than non-rest days, but I don’t think that’s what’s pulling me down.

Statistics have shown for many years how important movement is for our body, energy, and mood. I think my FULL REST days are negatively impacting my subsequent days because when I stop, I am at a FULL STOP.

Like I mentioned a few weeks ago, I am working hard this year to find true balance in my life, my family, my routines, and my self-care. Taking a full hard stop rest day leaves me lethargic. My goal from now on is to still do small movement on my rest days. (Obviously I am a parent of a toddler so I am never fully stationary in a day) but I vow to at least take a short walk around the block or do some other light lift, jog etc. on my rest days to help my body stay in motion and my energy up.

Tell me what your rest days look like and feel like. How many days a week do you take a rest day? I would love to connect and grow this community of strong women working on our life goals together.
